NEAREST AIRPORTS

 

Brisbane International Airport, situated near the City of Brisbane, is about 160 km  (about 1.5  hours drive) north of Byron Bay.

  • Byron EasyBus has scheduled buses to Byron Bay 3 times a day - Phone 02 6685 8881. 

 

 
Gold Coast Airport is 40 mins drive north of Byron Bay. Freedom Air and some Qantas/Jetstar offer domestic flights to Coolangatta Airport from major citiess

  • The Coolangatta Byron Bay Airporter. Phone 0414 608 660.

 

  • Byron EasyBus has scheduled buses to Byron Bay 3 times a day - Phone 02 6685 8881.

 

 
Ballina Airport is  30 minutes drive south of Byron. Virgin Blue and Jetstar service Ballina, but on a less frequent schedule than Coolangatta Airport. 

For travel from Ballina Airport to Byron Bay:

GET TO BYRON BAY BY CAR

Byron Bay is 10 hours drive north of Sydney, 1.5 hours drive south of Brisbane and 40 min drive south of Queensland's Gold Coast.

If you are coming from the south: From Ballina you can take either the Pacific Hwy, or the coast road to Byron Bay.

  • If you are taking the Pacific Highway: stay on the highway north from Ballina until you come to the Byron Bay interchange (you won't miss it), about a 30 minute drive.
  • If taking the coast road: once you have passed through Ballina, follow the signs to Lennox Head and Byron Bay. This is also about a 30 minute drive.

 

 

 

 

If you are coming from the north: Head south, down the Pacific Highway, cross the bridge over the Brunswick River, continue past the Brunswick Heads turn-off (on the left) and Mullumbimby turn off (on the right), then take the Byron Bay exit (on the left).


 RAIL TO BYRON BAY

Note that trains no longer run to Byron Bay.


GET TO BYRON BAY BY BUS
Greyhound and Kirklands bus lines run daily services to Byron Bay via the Pacific Hwy from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Greyhound Pioneer coach - cost about $85, and travel time about 14 hours. Phone 131499, or visit their website at www.greyhound.com.au.

There is also a wide choice of airport shuttle busses operating from Brisbane, Coolangatta and Ballina airports.

  • The Byron Bay International Express Airport Shuttle runs express mini-coaches from Brisbane Airport to Byron Bay. Phone 02 66857447.

  • Airport Transfers Byron Bay. Phone 1800 135660.

  

  • OR Take a Coachtrans coach from Brisbane Airport to Coolangatta Airport - a frequent but slow service. Phone 07 3238 4700 or enquire at the airport. About $35. Then from Tweed Heads (near Coolangatta), take a McCaffertys coach (phone 131499), or a Kirklands coach (02 66221499) to Byron Bay.
    Note : Tweed Heads is a few kilometres from Coolangatta - phone coach companies to check if and how their services meet up and where their terminals are.
