FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH - BYRON BAY COMMUNITY MARKET

Byron Bay's craft and produce market, held at the Butler Street reserve on the first Sunday of the month, is one of the best in the region. Covering an area of a few acres and arranged in orderly rows, the market offers a vast array of handcrafted wares, locally-grown produce, and artworks of every kind. It's best to get there early and allow a few hours to take in all the stalls, indulge in some fresh nourishment and feel the culture.

At the open centre of the market ground is a performance space, where you might see fire-eaters, acrobats, jugglers, dancers, contortionists, escape artists, and musicians of every description. Stallholders, in their eye-catching colourful splendour, are a spectacle in themselves. Rainbows, sparkles and angel wings seem to be the 'uniform', making you feel as if you truly are in a magical world.

There is some nearby parking, but because Butler Street is a no-through-road, it is easier to park in town and walk across the railway line to the market. Access across the line at Lawson Street and take the first left into Butler Street, or through the car park at the back of the Byron Visitor Centre and turn right into Butler Street.

SECOND SUNDAY OF THE MONTH - THE CHANNON COMMUNITY MARKET

The Channon is a small village 45 mins. to the west of Byron Bay, in the hills near Lismore. On the second Sunday of each month, the whole place comes alive with the craft and produce market. Similar to Byron Bay's but with extra 'feral funk', The Channon market is a wonderful place for a day in the country, for all the marvellous produce of the market and for a memorable experience.

Set on the sports oval, the market is two concentric rings of stalls, some under the trees, with open space in the centre, which is often the scene of live music and other performances.

Exit the main Bangalow-Lismore road at Clunes and follow the signs to The Channon. Parking is available in the paddock next to the market for $2 per vehicle. Proceeds go to local causes.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF THE MONTH , BANGALOW COMMUNITY MARKET

Great atmosphere, all set under the shade of the beautiful camphor laurel trees at Bangalow Showground . Live music -from the sounds of African drums to a busker playing gentle Celtic Harp - while people stroll along the many pathways full of arts & crafts, licking an ice-cream or munching on a must have famous spring roll.

Exoctic flavoursome foods, and a wide variety of market stalls, - what a great way to spend a Sunday!

Parking is available at the showgrounds for a $2 fee .

Opening Times 4th Sunday of every month 9am - 3pm

Getting There Byron Bay is 13 kilometres to the east and Lismore 32 kilometres to the west. The drive from the Gold Coast takes 45 minutes and from Brisbane about 1hour 45 minutes.
